It should have. But it didn’t. I was 18 years old when we met in India. I hadn’t seen or even talked to my parents in almost 3.5 years. I did write lots of letters but in those days international phone calls were $$$. I really didn’t think we’d last and I didn’t want to drag my Catholic family through what would have been the first divorce among my 47 first cousins. (There have since been a few) My husband who is 7 years older was more confident in our relationship. I still had a LOT of growing up to do.
